Centre Stage Offering New Musicals for a New Generation
New Musicals for a New Generation celebrates ten years of commissioned musicals that have been created through the New Musicals Initiative at Penn State. Featuring seven Musical Theatre students and a four-piece live band, this musical revue of scenes and songs is directed by John Simpkins, music directed by Connor Crotzer Scartascini, and choreographed by Natalie Malotke, Madison Palmer and Johnny Fenton. Selections from each of the previous nine years of commissioned musicals will be featured on the program. Penn State Centre Stage hopes you will join us to celebrate some of the most exciting new voices and songs written for the American Musical Theatre!
Please join Centre Stage September 18-19 at 7:30pm and September 22 at 1pm and 6pm at the Downtown Theatre. All seats are $4.99 (cash only) at the door, but reservations are required.
Please email jsimpkinsassistant@gmail.com and indicate how many tickets and which day/time you would like to attend. You will receive a confirmation email and may then pick up your tickets beginning 30 minutes before curtain.
Centre Stage is excited to welcome special guests to perform an original song at curtain time just before the show gets underway at selected performances! Tony Nominee Joe Iconis (Be More Chill) is the author of the first ever musical commission, Love in Hate Nation, and will join Centre Stage on Thursday, September 19. Drama Desk nominees Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham (I Love You Because) are the authors of last year’s commission, The Morris & Essex Line, and will join Centre Stage on Sunday, September 22 at the 1 pm performance.
The Penn State Musical Theatre New Musicals Initiative is the only one of its kind in the nation. You can read more about this exciting program and past musicals at https://arts.psu.edu/academics...
