WingFest is here, and it’s better than ever

– by Cara Aungst

It’s time for WingFest at Tussey Mountain! Every Thursday from June 22nd – August 10th, enjoy new music and wings from your favorite restaurants and vote for your favorite! Each week a winner is crowned, and each week’s winner moves on to the Finals on August 10th to compete for the Wing King title.

WingFest has been a Happy Valley summer tradition for 20 years, and this year has the same elements that have made it a favorite for the past two decades, with some new additions.

There’s one extra week! “This year we are adding an 8th week for finals,” Aaron Weyman, Director of Marketing and Recreation, said. “That means more restaurants and more bands.”

New bands join the familiar favorites. This year some new opening bands are getting a first chance to perform. The event will also feature fan favorites like “Velveeta,” along with what Weyman says are some of the best tribute bands in the country — from Michael Jackson tribute band “Who’s Bad” to a nod to the Foo Fighters with “Fooz Fighters” that appeared on “Battle of the Tribute Bands.”

“We are really excited to bring in such a variety of performers to WingFest,” Weyman said.

Take the chair lift for the best view of the valley. After a hiatus, the chair lift is once again part of WingFest — you can even take a drink up with you. You can order your drink from WingFest (or choose from one of the six Shy Bear brews on tap at the beer garden) and take a walk on one of the trails. The view from the lift — especially at sunset — should be on every Happy Valley bucket list.

Hit the target with ax throwing. Get some competition going with six lanes of ax throwing with The Blue Moose this year. (Ax throwing not your thing? The Tussey Fun Centre is open until 9pm and Go-Karts are available until 8!)
