Comic Cove
528 Westerly Plaza
State College, PA
www.facebook.com/comiccovestore
If you do not have children interested in sportscards, maybe some are interested in comic books or collectible card games? Comic Cove, a comic bookstore owned by Army veteran Justin Behrens and his wife Liza, opened in State College in 2024. Located near the heart of Penn State University’s campus, Comic Cove was inspired by Behrens’ lifelong love of comic books, which began when he read them as a child and while serving in Iraq. The store’s canine mascot, Behrens’ pug Noah, sparked the idea of featuring a pug superhero. Comic Cove’s mission is to make comics affordable and accessible to all, an ideal inspired by Alan Moore’s wish to bring comics back to the middle class. Through subscriptions and online orders, Comic Cove serves comic fans across the nation, carrying new and old comic books, Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering trading cards, and more.
The Makery of Central Pennsylvania
123 South Fraser Street
State College, PA 16801
themakerypa.com
It’s hard to determine if The Makery of Central Pennsylvania should be in the Activities article section or in the Store section. It has a brick-and-mortar location and sells kits for children and adults to create things, but it uses its space for parties, classes and open-studio time.
If your children have an artistic flair, this is the perfect place to visit and explore.
