Easter Parade in Bellefonte to Help the Hungry

– by Thomas Range II

The Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association and Helen Foxx & Co. have joined forces to sponsor a sidewalk parade on Easter Sunday in downtown Bellefonte. Featuring live music, multiple cash prizes, help for the hungry, and a reception on the Courthouse lawn, the Sidewalk Easter Parade offers a good way to spend some pleasant time on this very special afternoon. The parade’s purpose is to help people celebrate Easter by dressing up, having fun, and providing food for those who need it.

Easter Parade

When contestants hear a brass quartet begin playing Easter Parade around 2 p.m., those wearing their Sunday outfits will start strolling up the sidewalk from the Helen Fox boutique on Allegheny Street until they reach the Courthouse steps. Waiting for them will be a panel of three judges, who will score their outfits for Class, Sass, and Creativity. Participants can compete in one of four categories: students (under 18), single adults, couples, and families (three or more people).

Immediately after the parade, while contestants are enjoying the reception, the judges will combine the scores for each contestant, adding a point for those who brought along a donation to benefit the FaithCentre Food Bank. The winner in each category will receive a $50 cash prize plus the honor due all sharp dressers.

The parade has no entry fee, but participants must register in advance to help things run smoothly. Before the parade, participants will check in at Helen Foxx & Co. to pick up their identifying number used by the judges to keep track of scores. People can register or learn more about the parade by visiting events.bellefontearts.org. Registration links can also be found on the Facebook pages of Helen Foxx & Co. and the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association.
