Entertainment, education and engagement on tap
The 18 wineries, cideries, breweries and distilleries that comprise the Central PA Tasting Trail are well known for their award-winning array of locally produced craft beverages. These establishments serve up more than great flavor. Community centric mindsets and an array of entertainment, education and engagement offerings, are always on tap at Trail member locations. This article captures just a few.

At Boal City Brewing, the newest Trail member, authenticity, community and adventure are the brewery's ethos, and for good reason. Since 2023, Boal City Brewing has become the hub in Boalsburg for outdoor recreation, good vibes, great craft beer and community. The brewery is equidistant from two primary trailheads to Rothrock State Forest, Galbraith and Shingletown Gap. It is a simple car drive or bike ride from Boal City Brewing to some of the best hiking, mountain biking and skiing in the area. The taproom and beer garden offer spacious outdoor seating in a chill vibe with great views, incredible craft beer and daily food truck service. Organized bike rides start and finish at the brewery on a regular basis. Hiking trails are walking distance from the taproom. The brewery also sits next to the bike path from State College, making it an easy stop for commuter cyclists.
Dead Canary Brewing Co. is another relatively new Trail establishment and craft brewery in Philipsburg – just a short drive “over the mountain.” The Dead Canary strives to keep original community minded events on tap. Some of those events include “Cupcake and Cocktails” with Philipsburg bakery the Sweet Suite. Reoccurring events include a “drink and draw” on the third Thursday of every month, open book club, and trivia night, meaning there is always something to do at this community gathering spot. (Trivia nights are popular offerings at many other Tasting Trail establishments.)

Big Spring Spirits in Bellefonte has always been locally focused, community inspired and visionary. It was, after all, the first distillery in the state, second in the country and third in the world to be Gold LEED certified.
Their reputation for innovation translates into creative events and learning opportunities offered throughout the year. These include the new “Fonduesday” every Tuesday complete with a fun tiki drink menu that changes monthly and “Disco after Dark” music.
For aspiring mixologists and seasoned cocktail enthusiasts, Cocktail Lab is offered once a month, typically on the third Monday. At the hands-on sessions, attendees learn how to craft flavorful cocktails from Big Spring Pro Brent Guy. This month’s class is "Whiskey
Business." Upcoming months will feature "Syrups, Liqueurs, and More" and cocktails "From the Garden.”
Complementing Big Spring Spirits’ location in the historic Match Factory, Local Historia’s Matt Maris takes attendees on nostalgic trips back to Centre County’s past at the popular History Pub on the third Wednesday of the month.

At many Central PA Tasting Trail establishment at any time throughout the year, you can hone your artistic skills at sip and paints and similar creative workshops; show off your musical talents at open mic night; learn the art of food and wine pairing; or listen to live music.
Prefer to appreciate others’ creativity? University Wine Company offers a monthly rotating art gallery featuring works by local artists.
While special offerings vary from establishment to establishment, the one thing they all have in common is serving as gathering spots for friends and family. Like Mount Nittany Vineyard & Winery, where you can bring your own games and socialize with a wine or beer flight while enjoying the cozy fireplace and friendly staff.
