Come any time in the afternoon from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., enjoy refreshments, learn about the school’s history, join in recess games, try your hand at “mental math” and even ring the school bell! You might even meet alumni of Boogersburg or hear stories from others who attended a one room school as a student.

Hosted by the Centre County Historical Society, this event is free and open to the public. The Schoolhouse will be open from 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. and is located at 1021 Fox Hill Road, State College, Pa. (Patton Township) on the road to University Park Airport.

The historic charm of the Boogersburg School is often missed by those hurrying by. Pausing for a moment in its midst reminds us of a simpler time when children walked to school across open fields, studied side-by-side with siblings, and learned morals and arithmetic with McGuffey Readers.

Whether you attended Boogersburg or another one-room school, or are simply interested in early school life in a one room school setting, we hope you will join us! Visitors may “walk to school” on the trail to the schoolhouse from the adjacent field where recess games will take place, weather permitting.

Land for the Boogersburg School was donated to Patton Township in 1877 by Centre Furnace Ironmaster Moses Thompson for the children of tenant farmers that farmed his land. The school was active until 1952. Today, educators continue to interpret the School and 19th century school day at this site with area elementary students and special tours.

Parking for the open house is available on the adjacent field near the School and along Pleasant Hill Road.
