Happy Valley’s vibrant arts and culture scene is one of the biggest draws for residents and visitors alike. State-of-the-art facilities for the performing arts draw popular tours for large-scale productions, theatre and dance troupes, musical acts of all varieties, comedians and more. From the big stage at Eisenhower Auditorium to a more intimate setting at The State Theatre, every year brings an array of diverse opportunities for all ages. The following is a select highlight of performing arts happening in the area:
Happy Valley has lots of great food in restaurants and places with a story to tell. There are restaurants that feature fine dining and innovative dishes. There are the classic places that feature your favorite dishes. Restaurants with themes and history. Happy Valley also has over 1,000 active farms producing lots of food and products to eat and enjoy. I visited five great places in Happy Valley to enjoy a meal or a snack.
If you’re still planning your summer travels, then we encourage you to consider coming to Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. Summer festivals, outdoor adventures, and unique dining opportunities are just a few of the things waiting for you here.
It's never too early to take tick precautions. May is the most active time for ticks in Pennsylvania, and with the mild winter, we have already been in the midst of tick season for some time. Ticks will remain active throughout the summer and into the fall.
Millheim's annual music festival will return on the weekend of July 29 and 30. Visitors to previous Walkfests can expect a few changes for this year's event, which has been rebranded as Millheim SummerFest in recognition of the smaller footprint of the festival. SummerFest will focus on what makes Millheim a beloved destination: it hosts a vibrant music scene, homegrown food, wine, and beer, in a beautiful valley close to State College, Lewistown, Lock Haven, Lewisburg, and Bellefonte. This is a free event with free parking.
As Happy Valley’s local restaurants prepare for the 2023 Happy Valley Restaurant Week, June 16–25, the consensus is clear. Proprietors hope locals will use the special event to visit eateries that might not currently be among their regular dining rotation, and maybe even find a new favorite.
It’s no secret that the last few years have been difficult for the performing arts industry, as theaters grappled with quarantine, audience size limitations and adapting live event-reliant art mediums for virtual spaces. However, as the pandemic worries subsided and live events and festivals filled calendars once again, things have started to look — at least a little bit — like normal.
As the organizer of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association annual conference, I was stuck indoors while the rest of the attendees got to enjoy the outdoor adventures that Happy Valley has to offer. As the conference concluded, I breathed a sigh of relief of a job well done. The major duties of organizing the event were in the rearview mirror, and the weight of responsibility was lifted by the members, who continually remarked about how much they enjoyed the event that took place in Happy Valley.
