Town Feature - Philipsburg

– by Andy Rupert

Founded in 1791, Philipsburg offers a variety of activities for tourists and local residents alike. Walking tours are available that detail the history of Philipsburg’s Historic District and downtown, including residential areas that feature a variety of architectural styles. Philipsburg celebrates its proud history annually at Philipsburg Heritage Days, a week-long festival that typically takes place the week after the Fourth of July. (Look for Heritage Days to return in 2021.) Heritage Days includes a grand parade, vendors, entertainment, delicious food and the honoring of history and heritage. The Philipsburg shopping district – home to a number of unique shops – was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Take a trip to Philipsburg, and nearby Black Moshannon State Park, and find that peaceful, charming little get-away that’s not too far away!
