Van Kuren is a certified teacher of Zena Rommett Floor-Barre® Technique. The program has gained significant popularity among dancers, as well as non-dancers.

“It’s an ideal way to begin your day by centering, elongating, and strengthening your body without the pressure of gravity,” said Van Kuren. Zena Rommett Floor-Barre® Technique is designed to gently lengthen and strengthen the muscles and improve the alignment of the body. “The class guides you through a set of exercises that help you to achieve proper pelvic alignment, strengthen your core, and elongate your muscles,” Van Kuren added. For the dancer, it facilitates increased turnout and develops strength and stability on one’s standing leg.

Van Kuren said it’s also an ideal class for anyone recovering from an injury or wanting to remain uninjured. “It’s an excellent way to increase and maintain balance within the body and improve body awareness.”

The Floor-Barre® Technique will meet on Fridays from 10:30-11:30 a.m., Jan. 5-Feb. 9.

Van Kuren’s new combination class with Floor-Barre® plus ballet barre for adults also offers a unique opportunity for new as well as seasoned students of dance. “If you haven’t studied dance since you were in grade school or high school, or have just taken a little time off,” said Van Kuren, “this ballet class is for you. We begin on the floor without the pressure of gravity to focus inward on alignment and corrective movements. Then we stand and go to the ballet barre to apply the technique to traditional combinations and experience the newly found ease and flow of motion.”

The class will meet Sundays, 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m. from Jan. 7-Feb. 11.

All classes meet at Tempest Studios, 140 Kelly Alley, in downtown State College (down the alley from Elixr Coffee Roasters on the left, under the Fraser St. Parking Garage.
