AAUW State College to Hold 61st Annual Used Book Sale May 13-16
Book lovers, unite! Members of AAUW State College, a group advancing equity for women and girls, is putting the finishing touches on their annual Used Book Sale, to take place in the Penn State Snider Ag Arena May 13-16, 2023.
The books are all donated by a very generous local community, brought to the AAUW State College Used Book Workshop and processed by AAUW members and volunteers for the past ten months. In total, over 4200 boxes of books will be brought to the sale, an estimated 150,000 boxes of books, making this one of the largest such book sales in the country. Books are arranged in over 30 categories, such as art, biography, children’s, comics, collectibles, fiction, hobbies, history, literature, and many more. The largest single category is children’s, with over 25,000 books. A major goal of the sale is to make books affordable so – so books are priced to sell.
The sale is staffed by AAUW State College members along with some community volunteers, who are needed to pull off this large-scale event. Interested in volunteering? Click this link and sign up.
Proceeds from the sale fund two major priorities of AAUW State College: local grants to other non-profits who in some way reflect our mission, and scholarships for women to complete their undergraduate degrees.
The sale promotes literacy in our community, makes books affordable for everyone, and is a terrific reuse and recycling event, reselling books that might otherwise have been headed to the landfill. It is a win-win-win for our community.
