Last year, the organizers of the Happy Valley XL Improv Festival saw an opportunity to turn Happy Valley into a destination for improv actors, comedians and fans of improvisation. The results are in -- and it was no mistake. In fact, the team behind the event are planning for an even bigger festival with more workshops led by major figures in the world of improv.
If you visit Philipsburg and make your way to the new Moshannon Valley Heritage Center (we highly recommend that you do!), you’ll inevitably run into Tom Laird. He is, after all, a lifelong Philipsburg resident, original member of The Cold Stream Beach Bums, and can regale you with stories of old dams, forgotten ruins, hollows and hills of the area. “It sings to me,” he says.
Kindles and iPads are ok… but there is nothing like picking up a good paperback or hardcover book. The smell, the feel, and the excitement to physically turn the page can never be replicated by technology. While everyone loves running to the local bookstore to pick up the latest, greatest novel from their favorite author, there’s a certain thrill when you stumble across an amazing used book.
