The National Caves Association, which represents 90 show caves in the United States, Bermuda and Barbados, declared June 6 as National Caves and Karst Day to increase awareness of the roles both play in our lives and the environment. This year, 2021, marks the fifth year for this special event. 2021 also happens to be designated the International Year of Caves and Karst, bringing together cave scientists (speleologists), cave explorers and show cave owners and staff from all over the United States and the world.

In the fall of 1975, a few Centre County farmers were in a casual conversation while attending an antique engine show. They began meeting on a regular basis at various locations. In January of 1975, the Nittany Antique Machinery Association was born. With their dedication and determination, the first Fall Show was held in September of the same year. Theirs was only a dream with the hopes that this would become an annual tradition.

The State College Spikes are back! The Spikes are starting their first season in the brand-new Major League Baseball Draft League, welcoming fans back to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to see draft-eligible prospects from around the country competing with one another to make their big league dreams come true.

The State College Spikes’ 2021 season, the first of the brand-new Major League Baseball Draft League, starts with Opening Night presented by PSECU on Monday, May 24. Legends Pub at The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center is hosting a benefit event NOW through May 23. During this time, 10 percent of all food and beverage purchases will be donated to the Centre County United Way.

Pennsylvania Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam announced that the commonwealth’s mask order reflects the announcement made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on May 12, 2021.

The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau (HVAB) is making strategic changes that will better position the organization to drive local economic recovery efforts through leisure, sports and business visitation, as well as ensure that the county can capitalize on future tourism growth.

On May 10, the HVAB will move Visitor Center services and administrative offices from its current location at 800 E. Park Avenue to 131 South Fraser Street. Suite 3, in downtown State College. The HVAB Board of Directors approved the move at its March meeting.
