Scholar Hotel State College is now open downtown. And even though it’s State College’s newest hotel, what makes Scholar Hotel State College distinctive is that the building is not new at all — it’s been a part of downtown State College for nearly a century.

When the pandemic shutdown and subsequent mitigation requirements threatened the livelihood of local restaurants, the community responded in a big way. Now, residents and fans can support the Happy Valley, PA hospitality industry in several other ways.

The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau has plenty of inspiration for Penn State students interested in exploring and enjoying all corners of the county – the beautiful valleys and unique communities that comprise our big Happy Valley.

Since 1967, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts has been a highlight of the summer in StateCollege. With nine days of music, theatre, dance, puppet shows, educational television shows, and even a ribbon-cutting by then Governor Raymond Shafer, that first event was unlike anything CentralPennsylvania had ever seen. The community responded enthusiastically and voila, Happy Valley’s annual miracle was born

The National Caves Association, which represents 90 show caves in the United States, Bermuda and Barbados, declared June 6 as National Caves and Karst Day to increase awareness of the roles both play in our lives and the environment. This year, 2021, marks the fifth year for this special event. 2021 also happens to be designated the International Year of Caves and Karst, bringing together cave scientists (speleologists), cave explorers and show cave owners and staff from all over the United States and the world.
