State College, PA – Central Pennsylvania Stories, a new anthology of 41 historical articles by local historian Ralph Seeley, has just arrived at Centre Furnace Mansion and is now available to the public. Published for the Centre County Historical Society by Mt. Nittany Press, the book’s varied stories cover Centre County and nearby locales from the 17th through 20th centuries.

The Shaver’s Creek 2022 Birding Cup - May 6-7, 2022

Shaver’s Creek’s annual fundraiser, the Birding Cup brings birders of all skill levels together to identify as many species as possible in 24 hours. Whether competing locally in central Pennsylvania or joining the fun as part of the noncompetitive global birding community, the funds raised by birders have supported important projects in the region for a quarter of a century. Birding will occur in 2022 from May 6 at 7:00 p.m. (ET) until May 7 at 7:00 p.m. (ET).

Training Offered with ClearWater Conservancy

Pennsylvania Master Naturalist, a nonprofit organization, will train citizen volunteers in the natural sciences in partnership with ClearWater Conservancy. The course will take place at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center from August 4th – October 27th. Classes will meet weekly on Thursdays from 6:00 – 8:30 pm and for four Saturday field sessions on August 13th, September 3rd and 17th, and October 8th. COVID safety protocols will be followed, and proof of vaccination will be required.

Five Family Adventures in Clearfield

Happy Valley’s neighbor, Clearfield County, has tons of grownup experiences to enjoy, from inventive wines to historical finds to adventures that showcase the great outdoors. But when I visited there recently, I kept thinking about how much fun my kids were going to have when I took them with me the next time. As a mom of five teens, I swear by the magic combo of fresh air fun and copious amounts of good food. Here’s five Clearfield adventures on our bucket list.
