New exhibition of works on paper at Palmer Museum takes viewers on a journey across the globe

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – For those who have been staying in one place throughout the last year and a half, the Palmer Museum of Art has an antidote for your wanderlust: the current special exhibition Place to Place: Recent Gifts of= American Drawings and Watercolors, 1900–1950. This exhibition of works on paper by American artists presents a wide array of geographical locales depicted with a dynamic range of mediums and artistic approaches, offering a jaunt around the United States and abroad during the first half of the twentieth century. The exhibition is on view at the Palmer now through December 12, 2021.

The Mansion and adjoiningFurnace Stackstand as a testament to two of the most important economic and developmental facets of Centre County history: the 18th century origins of the iron making industry and the 19th century founding of the Pennsylvania State University. The site features several acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, historic trees, and heirloom gardens and is a perfect venue for weddings, gatherings and meetings.

2021 has been declared the International Year of Caves and Karst by the United Nations, and local cave enthusiasts say it’s none too soon. After all, about 20% of the earth’s land surface is affected by karst—slowly dissolving rocks that create landforms such as sinkholes, ridges, fissures, and most famously, caves. This year, theInternational Union of Speleology, along with caves all over the world, will be celebrating these unique landforms and spreading knowledge about how we can all enjoy and help preserve them for the next generation.

Celebrate National Caves & Karst with Lincoln Caverns & Whisper Rocks

The National Caves Association, which represents 90 show caves in the United States, Bermuda and Barbados, declared June 6 as National Caves and Karst Day to increase awareness of the roles both play in our lives and the environment. This year, 2021, marks the fifth year for this special event. 2021 also happens to be designated the International Year of Caves and Karst, bringing together cave scientists (speleologists), cave explorers and show cave owners and staff from all over the United States and the world.
